Shel Kahn is a videogame art director who combines a love of storytelling with a passion for hand-built systems.

Shel works to produce visuals that enhance each game’s mechanics, immerse the players in the game’s world, and fit seamlessly into the game’s technical architecture.

Disney Villains: Cursed Café

Developed by Bloom Digital Media, published by Disney

As the art director, Shel Kahn worked with the team at Bloom and the stakeholders at Disney to design and create artwork that brought the game to life while supporting the existing characters and IP.

Creative responsibilities included:

  • visual development
  • environment designs
  • new costume designs for the villains
  • shader and VFX creation

Technical responsibilities included:

  • set design
  • character asset structuring
  • art implementation

Production responsibilities included:

  • managing complex feedback pipelines on all assets
  • scheduling all discrete deliverables
  • assisting with UI asset management
  • coordinating between Bloom’s internal art team and Disney’s stakeholders

Astronomics

Developed by Numizmatic Games

As the art director, Shel Kahn spearheaded visual development of Astronomics, and worked closely with the technical team to develop the procedural generation approach in a way that supported the larger art goals.

  • robot and equipment design
  • resource design
  • identity design

Production responsibilities included:

  • managing art interns
  • supervising contract modelers
  • maintaining a schedule for art deliverables

LongStory 2

As the art director, Shel Kahn joined the team mid-production to assist with general polish, manage remaining production deadlines, and develop marketing art assets and kickstarter rewards.

Solarpunk Project from Peculiar Path Inc.

As the art director, Shel Kahn worked on the game’s visual development, from the pitching stage through greyboxing and demo builds. They produced environment designs, character designs, and greybox drawover level designs.

Low Poly Puzzler from Numizmatic Games

As the art director, Shel Kahn worked on visual and puzzle development, creating puzzle designs alongside environment and character development based on early greybox builds.
